Some of the conflict in Saki’s “The Storyteller” is the children on the train are bored and want to be entertained with an exciting story by the Storyteller. Saki was isolated within his family home along with his siblings because of the threat of disease. They had little adult interaction growing up and had to use their imagination as much as possible. The conflict in the story comes from the children trying to make the most of their holiday while traveling with boring adults that have no imagination at all. As we grow old we often forget the longing to learn and ponder the mystery in a good story that can spark all sort of exciting stories and adventures in our imaginations. The children in the story seem starved for attention as Saki and his siblings were as children.
